Ashland Qigong's ongoing classes seek to pass on time-tested methods and movements that focus on the relationship between the mind/body/spirit, resulting in an understanding of how to self-manage whole body health. Referred to by some, as the "grandfather of all Chinese martial arts", Qigong might better be described as a several thousand year old meditative and postural discipline designed to improve health and vitality through a system of movements which balance the flow of living energy (chi) in the body.
Are Tai Chi and Qigong entirely different disciplines? Which one should I do?
This question has been addressed by many people over time. A recent local publication in S. Oregon had an article where a local instructor mentioned that Tai Chi is more of a "martial art" than Qigong. This is a common fallacy, as Qigong is loosely translated as "Energy Cultivation", a core principle of Tai Chi practice. To make life easy, we introduce a Tai Chi Qigong form called "Shibashi Qigong". A video of the exercise can be seen below:
